Women of all shapes and sizes are on the hunt for that perfect sports bra that's supportive, breathable, and stylish all at once. That's why we made it our mission to find out which sports bras really are the best.

How We Tested

We initially embarked on this test last summer, where we had 12 different testers work out and wear some of the most popular sports bras. To get our piece up to speed for 2020, we had four additional people try out some of the new products on the market to help determine if they're better than the tried and true picks. We took these sports bras on runs, in yoga classes, and out and about during our normal day. We also made sure to wash the bras a few times to determine how they hold up over time.

We also consulted reviews from other sites and read through reviews on the product pages themselves to make sure we had the full picture for the sports bras we're recommending.

What We Considered During Testing

There are several important factors for picking the right sports bra, like material, activity you'll be using it for, and overall design. When it comes to activity, lighter support bras are best for low-impact activity like yoga and pilates. High-support sports bras are best for activities like boxing, running, and anything that requires a lot of jumping.

Some consistent findings? A higher price point doesn't mean a better bra, and sizing can sometimes be tricky when ordering online. Luckily, we have notes for all of it, so you can find the perfect bra for your workout style and body type.

After more than 100 hours of testing, 20-plus wash cycles, and an immeasurable amount of calories burned, we've determined the best sports bras in every category so you can bring home the best one(s) for your favorite workouts.

This bra by crowd-favorite Lululemon totally lives up to our high expectations. Ideal for a yoga class, this lightweight bra is so fun to wear, it might actually encourage you to work out. We found this bra was more supportive than expected, but not in a constricting way.

Oh, and just a heads-up: Two of our testers reported when the bra arrived, it was too small. So, order a size up!

Its comfort did not go unnoticed by our tester, Kayla Ramsey, who says: "I would live in this sports bra if I could! It is so effortlessly sexy and the light padding on the chest ensures I can wear this sans T-shirt without any nipple visibility at the gym."

The material is made up of a nylon/polyester/spandex mixture, and provides both ventilation and moisture management. As far as sizing goes, the bra is recommend for up to C cups and ranges from small to XXL.

    Best for Curves
    Catalyst Sports Bra
    Knix

Offering sizing up to 42G, the Catalyst sports bra by Knix was designed for women who appreciate extra support and breathability. At one point, this bra had a 5,000-person wait list, so we couldn't wait to get our hands on it to see what all of the fuss was about.

Tester Katie McBroom said this bra was super easy to take on and off. "It has a traditional bra clasp in the back that allowed for easy removal and most of my other sports bras are more of a struggle," she said. "It was one of my favorite things about this bra!"

According to the Knix website, this bra outperformed over 800 bras it was tested against in terms of keeping the girls secure and reducing breast movement during workouts.

All of our testers said the sizing was off when they received the bra, so you might want to size up.

    Most Stylish
    Alo Yoga Lavish Bra
    Alo Yoga

This simple bra is one of the most stylish ones that we've tested. It's breathable, it has a cool strap design, and it feels supportive for any light- to medium-impact activities.

"This bra is gorgeous and has a cool aesthetic edge with the glossy performance jersey material, stretchy mesh band around the rib cage, slighter longer torso cut, and intricate back straps," said tester Danielle St. Pierre. "I wanted to wear it all the time!"

However, St. Pierre did note that she felt she needed to adjust the bra a lot during her workouts. "The strap design is really pretty, but this bra would be much more versatile and comfortable if the straps were adjustable," she said.

But if you're looking for a sports bra you'll feel good about wearing from yoga to brunch, then this pick from Alo Yoga is for you. We've found the bra does run true to size, but recommend sizing up if you're in between.

Rated as the best pick for high-impact activities by Good Housekeeping, this sports bra from Athleta checks all the boxes. It has an underwire design to provide the utmost support during HIIT classes, on runs, and really any activity that requires a lot of bouncing.

We also like that it's made with racerback straps and a hook-and-eye closure, making it an adjustable option that remains hidden under your workout tank. The straps are adjustable, too.

It's best for B-DD cup sizes and reviews say that it's true to size.

    Most Versatile
    Reebok PureMove Bra
    Reebok

The PureMove bra is notorious in the sports-bra world for reigning as one of the most innovative bra designs

What makes it so special? The motion-sense technology and responsive support, which help keep you comfortable during any medium- to high-impact activity.

Erica Murphy admits this bra is so stylish, she'd wear it on its own with a pair of leggings to a spin class. She goes on: "Because this bra doesn't have as much stretch as the average sports bra, it does hold you in really well. It also has built-in cups, which made me feel even more supported."

Murphy also loves how breathable the material is. You won't feel soggy if you go for a run outside on a hot day — the ventilation holes are a big design plus.

    9
    Best Boob Shape
    Lululemon Enlite Bra
    Lululemon

This new sports bra from Lululemon hits the three Cs for tester Bridget Clegg: compression, comfort, and cuteness.

"This is quickly becoming my favorite sports bra," says Clegg. "A lot of times sports bras for DDs are bulky-looking and make my boobs look shelfy under tank tops. This one makes me feel like one of those boutique fitness babes, ready for whatever Zoom workout might pop up on my calendar next."

One of the best parts about this sports bra is the material. It feels super silky and doesn't chafe or cause any irritation. The lightweight fabric is also really breathable, so you can wear it in the sweatiest of workouts.

This bra was made to give B-E cups high-support, so ladies with bigger boobs should feel comfortable working out in this pick. Clegg did note that it runs a bit small, so you might want to size up, especially with band size.
