What We Tested This Week: Coola Sun Silk SPF Drops

Who This Is Perfect for: Literally everyone — haven't you gotten the memo that you're supposed to be wearing sunscreen?!

Here's where our editors share what they're obsessing over now!

Gone are the days when I'm psyched to see a fresh batch of freckles on my face. I say "batch of freckles" rather than "tan" because, as a card-carrying Pale Person, I've only ever experienced the joy of sunburns and sun spots. Needless to say, sunscreen has always been a part of my life. It's ramped up lately, as I start to see the damage from those '90s rec center poolside "tanning" sessions. But in this bountiful age of serums and oils, acids and creams, no one wants to reach for the standard chalky sunscreen. Remember when the class of '99 was told to "wear sunscreen ... that sunscreen would be it"? Well, sun protection has grown up, and Coola's SPF drops are definitely "it."

The thing about this product that has me grinning so lovingly is that I can add it to my regular moisturizer or even BB cream. It's protection from rays without the weight of another layer of product. Once I turned 30, I saw that my clear path to happiness lay in building out a skincare routine that says "I've graduated from Lubriderm and I now know that every pore on my face is an individual with its own wants, needs, and dreams." Coola gets it, and lets you decide if you want to soak up your daily SPF in a moisturizer, a foundation, or on its own.

Technically speaking, this is a chemical sunscreen with broad-spectrum SPF 30 protection. You can rest assured that you're shielded from the rays you know (UVA and UVB, aka the sun), and the rays we're all just getting to know (IR and HEV, aka blue light, honey!). On days when I'm hurrying from apartment to train to office, I know I'm covered outside in the sun and inside with my multiple screens.

As a sensi-skin girl, I'm happy to report that Coola put good stuff like aloe, neroli blossom, jojoba, and hyaluronic acid in the formula, and left out bad, reef-destroying stuff like oxybenzone. The texture is smooth and slippery, and leaves your skin looking downright dewy. It has only the faint smell of summer, like when you open your tote after a day at the beach. To top it off, it's cruelty-free, GMO-free, and vegan.

For how much I'm into the drops, they haven't changed much about my daily routine — that's why I love it! After I wash my face, I'll start the day with a vitamin C serum, slather on some rosehip oil and a dropper full of the Sun Silk Drops, then layer on a BB cream and other makeup essentials. It's then, and only then, that I walk outside into the danger zone, with my phone plastered to my face, truly tempting fate like the (pale) rebel I am.
