On Trial: Glerups Felt Slippers

The Brief: Glerups’ felt shoes make hygge at home feel instantly achievable.
My obsession with Glerups felt shoes began while I was dealing with a pesky foot fracture a few months ago. I needed a pair of comfy slip-ons to run quick errands, and, after reading an Esquire endorsement of Glerups slippers, I decided to give them a try.
Based in Denmark, Glerups is a brand that’s named after its founder, Nanny Glerup. She created the first pair of boots after taking a felting course almost half a century ago. In the early 1990s, after making slippers for her friends and family to great acclaim, Nanny started the Glerups company, transforming her craft into a successful business venture with happy customers around the world.
Glerups are made from a 100% natural wool mix from Gotland sheep in Denmark, as well as from New Zealand sheep. Sourced with the highest standards for animal welfare, the felt wool material is breathable, naturally temperature-regulating, and self-cleaning. Before discovering Glerups, I’d only thought about felt as a material that’s used in the making of iPad and MacBook accessories, but it turns out that the material is also incredibly comfortable in footwear, too.
There are three distinct Glerups styles to pick from: a shoe, a slip-on, and a boot. The products are available in a multitude of colors with genuine leather or a natural rubber sole. The latter is available in a black or honey finish.
I was impressed by how stylish the Glerups were the moment I opened their retail box. Their design is a nod to a longstanding tradition of hand felting, as parts of the product are still created manually. On first wear, I was astounded by the Glerups’ comfort. The shoes are just as warm and cozy as their looks suggest. Even better, the shoes also get even comfier over time. Because they are made from felt, the slippers will adjust to the shape of the wearer’s feet for a bespoke fit.
I thoroughly enjoyed rocking the Glerups slip-on shoes with rubber soles during runs to the nearby grocery store. They were also handy and convenient during downstairs’ trips in my apartment building to pick up packages and drop items for recycling. The leather-soled Glerups boots, on the other hand, brought me a welcome sense of calm and comfort after hours of nighttime doomscrolling.
Closing Argument: To me, Glerups' felt shoes are the footwear equivalent of a favorite sweater — a clothing item that’s guaranteed to bring comfort every time you put it on. I highly recommend the shoes to anyone looking to seamlessly (and in style!) add a bit more comfort to their daily routine.
