What Does It Do?

10 stars

The COSORI Electric Gooseneck Kettle is a countertop appliance that does one thing, and it does it very well: It boils water for tea or coffee to one of five preset temperatures in just 3 minutes. The kettle itself is matte black stainless steel (also available in a shiny silver finish), which matches its included base.

The base has seven touchscreen buttons that light up and softly beep when pressed. It has a dedicated on/off button, Hold Temp function, and temperature presets for white, green, oolong, and black teas, as well as coffee. The gooseneck shape of the kettle looks sculptural and elegant, but it is also practical if you're a pour-over coffee drinker. It allows for more precise pouring so that you can gently bloom the coffee grounds instead of drowning them.

When you select the Hold Temp button, it'll keep the temperature of the water right where you've chosen. This function stays activated for about 30 minutes, then it'll automatically shut off. The whole unit will also automatically turn off once the boil is complete and it sounds off three beeps to notify you.

Why Do I Love It?

10 stars

The COSORI Electric Gooseneck Kettle has been in my life since 2019, and I've used it nearly every day since I first placed it on my countertop. It is, without a doubt, the most convenient and effective device to boil water for tea or coffee that I've ever used.

Unlike boiling water in a stovetop kettle, you don’t have to babysit the COSORI device, stare at a thermometer, or wait for a shrill whistle to sound. The process is quicker and far less stressful than that. The COSORI sounds off three “I’m done!” beeps, and it won’t keep annoying you to pour your cup once it goes off. If you forget to pour your water while it’s hot, oh well, just boil it again — it takes very little time.

The temperature presets are also very useful to have. Boiling water on the stove for way too long or using a Keurig to make hot water may still give you a drinkable result, but if you're steeping at a way-too-hot-or-cold temperature, you end up losing some of the flavor nuances of the tea or coffee. It's not the end of the world, but if you're spending money on quality beans or tea leaves, you're short-changing yourself out of the best possible drink if you're skipping this step. And yes, when tested with a cooking thermometer, this device does heat your water accurately!

There are a few drawbacks, however. The $70 COSORI Electric Gooseneck Kettle is a little pricey for its size. The .8-liter vessel is on the smaller side, pouring about two mugs' worth of tea at a time, while other tea kettle models can hold twice as much at a comparable (even lower) price.

Also, if you have your kettle placed near your stovetop (as I do in my tiny NYC kitchen), any cooking oil splatters will show up pretty clearly on this kettle since the finish is matte. Though this can be remedied by thoroughly washing the exterior, the kettle can be frustrating to keep looking pristine if it’s in the vicinity of your other cooking devices. Finally, its alert beeps are pretty soft, so if I have music playing or any other distractions at home, it’s easy to miss the kettle’s beeping if I’m not paying attention.

The Final Word

10 stars

Coffee and tea drinkers, you will not regret getting the COSORI Electric Gooseneck Kettle. As far as cost-per-use goes, if you're a daily sipper, this device will seem much less like a superfluous splurge and more like an investment that you'll really get your money's worth from. The kettle and base have never malfunctioned, and despite the odd oil mark on occasion, the device looks very sleek and stylish. It turns out that taking time for a quick, consistently delicious cup can actually take no time at all.
