What Does It Do?
Launched in 2016 by Vancouver-based siblings Sara and Sean Panton, Vitruvi is a natural scent-based wellness brand that is on a mission to make your home smell like ... well, home. The Vitruvi Stone Diffuser subtly scents your home or work space with essential oils, looking gorgeous as it does so. This petite diffuser weighs just over 1 pound, and it measures 7 inches high and 3.4 inches wide, making it the perfect size to nestle into the corner of virtually any bathroom counter, bedside table, or office desk. It's a chameleon.
This wellness tool is made beautifully. Crafted with a porcelain cover that looks like a natural stone sculpture, a BPA-free plastic water reservoir, and a minimalist LED-lit display, this diffuser is neutral enough to blend into virtually any surrounding decor.
To use the diffuser, simply fill the reservoir with distilled water up to the indented line, add a few drops of your essential oil(s) of choice, and plug in the attached 5-foot cord to your nearest power outlet. Two lights on the front display panel mark either 4- or 8-hour diffusing intervals, and a third button lights up the entire bottom base with a calming white hue. The diffuser automatically turns off at the end of each of these cycles.
With a diffusing capacity of 500 square feet, this diffuser is much more effective at scenting my home naturally than candles or aerosol products that I've tried in the past. For folks looking to add subtle, natural fragrance to their home or work space without the potential health risks or fire hazards of a candle, the Vitruvi Stone Diffuser makes for an elegant, stress-relieving solution. Plus, it just so happens to look pretty, too.
Why Do I Love It?
Like many other editors whose home space has morphed into their combined work space during the COVID-19 pandemic, scent has become an incredibly useful tool for me to mentally delineate when to log on and off.
In the morning, I'll add a few drops of an uplifting, invigorating essential oil to my diffuser as part of my morning routine to wake up my mind and body. I particularly love to use Vitruvi's spearmint and basil essential oils (part of their recently launched Home Refresh Kit) during the daytime because they smell fresh and clean — a morning shower for the senses.
At night time, after I've had dinner and taken my dog out for his evening walk, I'll change out the water in my diffuser's reservoir and substitute in an earthier, spicier scent that has more of a calming effect. I'll often mix an essential oil or two for bedtime, combining cozy and grounding scents like ginger, cardamom, citronella, or clove. It sounds like a fairly simple habit, but combined with other sensory triggers like a relaxing bath, dim lighting, or a cup of herbal tea, I find my diffuser helps to keep my internal clock balanced, even when everything else in the world seems slightly out of whack.
There are also a lot of user-friendly touches about this diffuser that make it stand out from the pack, from the simple setup instructions to the intuitive timer settings (you can choose to diffuse in either consistent 4-hour intervals or at intermittent 8-hour intervals). I've used other diffusers in the past that have wild light settings, are noisy, or ultimately break or malfunction with use over time, but my Vitruvi Stone Diffuser has remained a reliable wellness tool that I use every single day.
Vitruvi offers a number of different neutral stone colors for its porcelain-covered diffuser, from terracotta to classic black (my personal favorite of the bunch). I think the most fun part of using this diffuser is exploring different, unlikely scent families and combinations and discovering what scents help to support and balance my mood.
At just over $100, the price point is a bit higher than most diffusers that you might find online, but Vitruvi's Stone Diffuser is a little work of art that will last you season after season for years of use. Plus, your mental health is worth the splurge ... trust me.
